Folks, This is the "Craig Moates Free GM ALDL 8192-Baud Communications" program. It's designed to work with GM's TPI systems with the 1227165 & 1227730 ECMs. That covers 1986-92 MAF and MAP systems, but not TBI or LT1 applications. It is to be used with one of the various serial COM-port-based interfaces that are available, some of which can be seen at my website at: 'http://ice.prohosting.com/moates/gmecm/'. Two-transistor, MAX232, or MAX233 circuits are pretty easy to make and should work fine. If you'd like to purchase a hardware adapter which will work with this software, do a search for 'Andrew Mattei AKM Electronics' or 'Steve Ruse WOT Electronics' and they should be able to help. Please note: Biggest FAQ: Why won't it connect? Here's a short list of the most common reasons: 1) Check your defaults options (menu item 8) and make sure your ECM type (165 or 730) is properly selected. 2) Make sure your default setting is in the 'Diagnostic ECM Mode', because the program is 'shipped' in the 'Offline' mode. Offline mode is just so you can navigate through the program without having an interface to the car connected. 3) Check your circuit connections. If you need a power supply make sure it's connected. If you have a 165 MAF ECM, make sure you have a 10k resistor installed between ALDL pins A&B. 4) Go into your PC's BIOS and disable any IR/DA port stuff, and make sure your COM ports are subsequently enabled. 5) Don't use WinXP, WinNT or anything like that. The program likes MSDOS, Win95, and Win98. If you still have questions/comments, feel free to contact me at 'craig.moates@cox.net' or ask some other folks on one of the relevant internet forums.
