Built upon a foundation of information published on the internet, this do-it-yourself module combines hardware and software modifications to give a ‘730 GM ECM the ability to do real time emulation of the calibration tables in the 90-92 Tuned Port Injection calibration. By keeping a copy of the calibration tables in a battery backed memory module that the ECM’s CPU can read and write from, the ECM has the ability to modify it’s own calibration data. Modifications to the ECM’s software alter the ALDL protocol to be able to write into this memory, thus allowing a laptop connected to the ALDL port to update the calibration data. This is very similar to the way the later model LT1 and LS1 computers are “flashed”, the difference here being that it can be done real time while the engine is running!
