MXScan Standard Software Installation

It's here and ready for download and installation. Just submit your order (see previous page), and run the Trial version (also previous page) to carry out the registration keycode generation described below. Once your order is placed, you will be given a copy of the actual full Standard version software.

Here's the content of the readme.txt file which is included. It gives you an idea of what is needed to get up and running:

Instructions for installing MXScan for CATS OBD2 Cable

(updated 07-14-2006)

Please note:
Steps 1-9 need to be carried out prior to issuing your license information. So to make things move most quickly, get everything done with the trial version and submit your 'Checksum' information in the comments section of your order at www.moates.net when you check out in lieu of Step 9 below.

1) Download and execute the 'setup.exe' file. This will place the MXScan software on your computer. Make sure you install the software on the computer you plan to use with your cable, since the cable presence is required for registration.

2) Restart your computer if needed, and run the MXScan software from the Start/Programs menu.

3) Connect the CATS cable, and make sure it is powered via the OBD2 side (little red light should blink).

4) Go to the MXScan menu, and select Edit/Preferences option. Once selected, make sure you are on the 'General' tab.

5) Select the 'List Ports' button and make sure your CATS-connected port is shown.

6) On the 'Serial Port Settings' pulldown, select the correct COM port number for your connected cable.

7) Select the 'Test Cable' option. The program should display:
Connected Successfully to Device
Firmware Version: 3.1
Connected Successfully to Cable
Checksum: xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx (16 digits)
(if this is not displayed, click on the 'Test Cable' button again, two tries are typically needed)

8) Double-left-click on the 'Checksum: xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx' text, and it will be copied to your clipboard.

9) Either open a new email or a new text file, and paste the Checksum info into the document. Send the document to craig@moates.net via email, and a registration will be issued using the checksum value as a basis.

10) Once you receive the license information via email, open the program up and select 'Help/About' from the menu. Then select the 'License' button and enter the information which was supplied to you.

Please note: Once you conduct the 'Test Cable' function, your cable will be firmware-stamped and linked to your software license.
