MXScan GM OBD2 Datalogging Software Information Page
MXScan is a datalogging software for use with the CATS/TunerCat-style OBD2 hardware interface. Cost is $69 for the standard version, which is a true bargain considering what it can do.
Diagnostic codes can be read and cleared, and 3-channels of 0-5v A/D can be digested as part of the datalog. It gives very fast data acquisition (10 frames per second for 10-12 PIDs plus all 3 A/D channels!), and a wide variety of parameters can be monitored, recorded, and analyzed.
The software will work with a wide variety of GM OBD2 vehicles. It runs in
WindowsXP/2000+, but not in Windows98 and older.
The list that follows shows which Craig Moates has PERSONALLY verified (along
with example exported *.csv datalogs):
- 2002 LS1 Camaro (2002_camaro_ls1.zip)
- 2005 LS1 Avalanche (2005_avalanche_ls1.zip)
- 2005 I5 Colorado (2005_colorado_i5.zip)
- 2002 LS1 Silverado 4x4 (2003_silverado1500_4wd.zip)
- 1997 LT1 Firebird TransAm WS6 (1997_firebird_ws6_lt1.zip)
Here's a list of vehicles that were attempted and failed
for which support is coming soon (but not yet available):
- 1997 L31 5.7L Vortec Truck 1500
(Updated as of 07-13-06, more to come as they're tested.)
( Does not reflect all vehicles with which this will work, just the personally
validated ones.)
( All 1996-2006 vehicles are being targeted systematically.)
(Your best bet is to base your expectations on the above list in terms of supported
vehicle types.)
Want to download a trial version of the software? Go for it, right here: mxscantrialinstall.zip
(link now works as promised!)
The trial version will allow you to walk through and 'test drive' the software,
allowing you to set up and connect to the cable (if present), read your VIN,
and validate all your PIDs. You'll also be able to log a couple of parameters
(like RPM and TPS).
To monitor and log other parameters, including all the manufacturer-specific
PIDs, you'll need to purchase the licensed version.
To download the MXScan Standard Software Installation,
go here: MXScan Standard
Software Install
Note that you'll need to download and install to generate keycode information
needed for license purchase, so go ahead with the link above!

Here's a video (about 4mb) you can download and view which includes screen capture of initial setup, PID selection, recording, and data export: MXScanVideo.zip
